Roisin O'Farrell At The Hayfield Manor
Roisin O'Farrell returns to Cork in September for her first Solo Show for several years.
The show, curated by The Gallery Kinsale, opens at The Hayfield Manor Hotel, Perrott Ave, College Rd, Cork on September 17th and runs until mid October. Speaking of the show gallery director Ken Buckley said "We are absolutely thrilled to be hosting this exhibition, Roisin is one of our leading artists and with the inspiration of this show coming directly from Roisins Kinsale heritage really adds to the sense of excitement and anticipation for us and the town of Kinsale"
Roisin O'Farrell comes from a long line of enterprising and creative Cork women. As a young woman, Roisin's great grandmother, Annie Kiely (nee Horrigan) was a dressmaker in Kinsale town and she employed a number of local women in her business.
They would work by daylight until dusk would fall, and then there would be a short time before the gas lights would become effective. They would use this time 'between the lights' to take a turn up the road, to chat and refresh themselves before returning to finish the days work.
Roisin is best known for her paintings of Welly Boots, full of character and colour, and sumptuous paintings of interiors. Her work, described as impactful, beautiful and a little vintage, is influenced by a sense of home, and feature warm, light filled period interiors with the lush impasto palette knife treatment that have made her a favorite.
